The Salvation Army works with some of the most disadvantaged people in our communities; including homeless people, older people, unemployed people, those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, as well as victims of human trafficking and major emergencies.
If you enjoy spending time with people and have some skills you’d like to share, we’d encourage you to make contact with us. Your skills are valuable and the rewards of supporting others are immense – volunteers often tell us that they receive much more than they give.
Whatever you contribute through volunteering with us, whether it’s seasonal, once a week, or anything in between; by volunteering here you are joining a team of thousands of Salvation Army volunteers across the world, and therefore being part of a huge movement for change.
However you get involved, volunteering with The Salvation Army will give you the opportunity to:
- Learn new skills which would be great for your CV
- Make new friends locally and across the country
- Meet inspiring new people, including Salvation Army members, staff, clients and other volunteers
- Work alongside experts in their field; and
- Make a tremendous difference in the fight against poverty and injustice
WHAT CAN I DO?
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved through volunteering, whatever your individual skill level and interests. Volunteering is an excellent way of taking your valuable life skills and experience and using them to benefit others in your local community.
You can see some of the roles that may be available in your area: join the feeding programms, support poor people or take part in different community projects ect.
VOLUNTEERING AT CHRISTMAS
Our volunteers at Christmas can get involved with everything from sorting donated presents during our Christmas toy appeals to serving festive meals to people who might otherwise be alone and helping at our winter night shelters.
You also can join our traditional Christmas Appeals such as "Red Kettle" and "Angel's Tree".
If you’re unable to volunteer but still want to help, at Christmas there are many ways you can support us. Regular or one-off donations help us make a huge difference to vulnerable people in communities.
The Salvation Army works throughout the year to provide compassionate support, a listening ear and practical help to people who are vulnerable or in need. There are many opportunities to contribute to your local church & community centre, where the events and services on offer are based on the needs of the local community.
