Helping prisoners

Helping prisoners

The Salvation Army in Russia also serve to prisoners, visiting them in prisons and holding correspondence with them. This ministry is based on the words of Jesus Christ: “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me” (Matthew 25:36, NIV); and it respond the calling: “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”  (Hebrews 13:3, NIV).

The prisoner’s ministry gives an opportunity to serve them, as Christ Himself, and is directed to help prisoners to grow spiritually, socially and morally.

The foundation this ministry is love, which "is patient … is kind … is not self-seeking … does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth..." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NIV).

This ministry is one of mercy and compassion, it helps a person to find love, and with it other Christian virtues.
