News from Moscow Corps, helping prisoners

At the beginning of the year we expected to help about 250 prisoners, but managed to offer our support more than 700 people (correspondence and parcels). Some families of prisoners were also helped. About 50 parcels were sent to the women's colony, where the Children's Home is located.

Our correspondence with prisoners, first of all, is aimed at the spiritual support of people who often do not have another opportunity to communicate on spiritual topics. Here we raise questions about faith, church, spiritual life.

Serving the prisoners and people in difficult situations has always been and remains an integral part of ministry of the Salvation Army. But, unfortunately, recently the doors of the Russian prison system without explanation of the reasons for evangelical churches began to be closed.

Realizing that these are the difficulties that the Lord warned in Matthew 24, we still remember and believe in the words of Christ: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Therefore, in April 2017, we were able to visit a teenage colony. The meeting was attended by the leadership of the institution and more than 100 underage teenagers who heard the testimonies of people whose lives were changed by Christ. During the conversation, songs were heard, and also a pleasant surprise was waiting for the children - small gifts.

We are grateful to our Lord, all project sponsors and volonteers for prayerful and practical support in correspondence and other aspects of prison ministry to people who are now forgotten by many people, but they are not forgotten by Christ. "He bore the sin of many, and became an intercessor for the transgressors" (Isaiah 53:12). They are not indifferent to us: "He was in prison, and you came to Me" (Matthew 25:36).

Today we still have the privilege and the opportunity to visit these people. It depends on us how they will return to our society.
